“I had no idea the damage that would come from one tiny driveway crack”

Cracked sidewalk with a sidewalk closed sign on it

We hear this sentiment a lot and unfortunately, its usually after the majority of the damage is already done. Your driveways and sidewalks are just like your car; they require preventative maintenance for any longevity. A concrete crack is the “check engine” light for your pavement. It signals that something happened and repairs are needed before continuing.

Cracking in concrete can be from being improperly poured or installed, pressure from tree roots or shifting, or a one time impact or event. In all cases, sealing up the opening is best practice, and in most cases, a crack seal can be a permanent solution. We at ProSeal Concrete Care offer free consultations to help determine the best next steps for your concrete situation.

Rain and moving water is a cracked concretes worst nightmare. A crack creates an opening to what should be a dry and compact base on which the rest of the panel is supported by. When water infiltrates a crack and runs beneath a panel, it washes away that panel’s stable base and creates air pockets underneath it. The panel now has unsupported sections which will inevitable crack under continued pressure. The best time to repair a crack is before the rainy season when the crack base is dry and before more water penetrates underneath the concrete.
